What a difference one dose of Chemo make

Bina continues to feel stronger and happier. A week ago, we had almost lost her for couple of days ( in Coma) .When she was conscious, she was unable to walk or sit and was  in extreme pain, then there was the heart failure.
Today, she sat smiling, played rummy ( we need to buy her RummyKub). She even stood up. She has minimal pain and her lungs are clear. Why and How? The oncologist says just one low dose of Chemo made a this huge difference. Right treatment at the right time and 24 hour care by the family ( along with everyone's best wishes) made this remarkable recovery.
The current thinking ( and plan) is no more back surgery or any kind of hip surgery and continue the Chemo once a week. Bina may be going home this weekend. Let's all keep positive thoughts for that. I strongly feel that the support and presence of family has made a big impact on her recovery.  It is hard to imagine going through this alone or with just one or two support members around. Emotional and physical support for the patient and for the care givers ( Palliative care) makes a difference of life and death (or at least the quality of life). Here she is pain free and smiling and playing cards...

With things under the illusion of control, Shalini and I spend the morning exploring the "other" side of the beach and the city. We took photos of real people in Mumbai.  People living nearby do not have indoor toilets and other facilities, as a result you see beautiful beach littered with all sorts of rubbish and human feces.

"other side" of Juhu beach

We saw fishermen catching the fish in old fashioned way and bringing the day's catch in

Shalini at the beach. Water was too questionable to put our feet in it , but this was a fun adventure and a good diversion from the hospital....
People hanging out in the market and on streets.

Back at home, in the evening, I played with Anaya and Ansh, a great therapy and fun. We went out for a sort of celebration  ending the day with a note of acceptance, compassion, joy.and delicious meal....
