Bina continues to feel better. She is walking few more steps everyday, playing cards and smiling more. This makes all of us more relaxed and happier. Dr. Smruti ( the Oncologist) thinks Bina is making remarkable progress and she may go home in couple of days. Second Chemo is tomorrow and we will wait for that and decide the plan of action.
Unlike USA, I find the doctors here more gentle and compassionate. Dr. Smruti is very reassuring to Bina, she always tells her, " do not worry I will take good care of you". She is more open and straight forward with the family but still there is a sense of care, compassion and gentle assurance. Our Dr. friend in UK said something to the effect, " telling the condition , more gently and compassionately helps in recovery and in general well being of the patient and the family." I know some people may disagree,( i probably was one of those) but seeing how things are shaping up, i am realizing there is a better, more collective and loving way of navigating through life. Nothing in life is 100% sure, this is more true for a disease like cancer. Why not just say, we will try our best and we will take good care and leave it at that. Rest of the scientific data and statics are there and the patient and family can very well check that out and ask questions if they want to know more. Every person is uniques, why make her into a statistic?
In the spirit of relaxed adventure, we ventured out outside the hospital canteen and found this trendy restaurant named " Candy's" This was recommended by my young nephews. This is "other" Mumbai. A tree lined, cobble stone street, a cute cafe with wells cared pure breed dogs outside and beautiful young people inside. Shalini pointed out that most people had some sort of a tattoo on their body, I thought the clothes were a fashionable Indian twist to Western styles , decor was in Indian interpretation of what it means to be western. Most important was the food and it was excellent. Once again, it is an Indian version of food from outside world ( Europe and USA). The desserts looked really good but our adventure was limited to cooked hot food only :(
Stayed in the hospital till 6pm. We are beginning to recognize Mumbai neighborhoods: From Trendy Bandra on to Elegant old Pali Hills to Christian and Parsi areas of churches and beautiful old buildings , on to crowded bazars, vegetable markets and narrow streets filled with black rickshaws, both sides lined with small shops selling everyday essentials to Juhu with glimpses of the famous beach and the luxury of air conditioned home.
Every day, as soon as we enter the luxury of the air conditioned home , we are always greeted with hot tea and biscuits and then fun play with Ansh and Anaya. I am getting spoiled by home made food ( things that I am too lazy to cook in USA or we do not get it) and by getting things before I even know that I need them :) and the sparkling clean room ( that is a mess when I leave in the morning).
Angry Bird Margi pans at Candy's....
Candy's : Stain Glass Windows depicting Jesus and other Bible stories...
Lunch: Hamburger and Chicken Roti...
Dog sleeping outside Candy's: waiting patiently
