Got here last night
exhausted after almost 20 hours. Flights were nothing to write about - food was
typical, my entertainment system did not work but this is a normal expectation, what
I did not expect is this: Standing in the check in line at SFO for an hour and a
half, we were getting close to the flight time and suddenly these people rush in with extreme emergency and cut in front of everyone. We tried to argue but
realized they were in a panic, so we let them go ahead. More came and then we
got upset and stopped them…it was too late. We got to the counter and the lady
said you guys are late; I cannot check you in …what??? We were standing in front
of her face for an hour and she kept taking these emergency people. Anyways we managed to get in and guess what:
All those “emergency” people were on our flight….Moral of the story is do not
be too nice and ask to see the tickets of these “emergency” people..oh well,
live to learn.
At the airport, found
Theresa and then was greeted by Anupam and Wei (felt like we just got
home…very nice). Got driven to the hotel on Nanjing Road and just walked around a bit. Nanjing road is all too familiar - a combination of real life
Disneyland, Las Vegas , loud noises, choo choo trains, kids everywhere ( even
at 9 pm). Vendors selling all kids stuff, Burbury, Rolex and other brand names and wonderful food. ..this
is Shanghai I remembered fondly. As we (Anupam, Theresa, Jagdish and I) sat down to eat, it really did not feel much
different than eating in SF except for the volume of the people’s voices. :-)
This is morning and I will
see if the blog can be posted. I have a new email: sarojpathak99@yahoo.com , if you wanted to communicate.
